A TRADITION PASSED FORWARD

Our History.

From Southern China
to Peoria.

Wing Tsun belongs to the Southern Chinese martial art tradition also known as Wing Chun. Its traditional origin story credits the Buddhist nun Ng Mui with teaching Yim Wing Chun, whose name the art carries; these early accounts are best understood as legend rather than firmly documented history. In the twentieth century, Ip Man (also spelled Yip Man) helped bring the art to a wider audience through his teaching in Hong Kong. His student Bruce Lee later became an international martial arts icon and developed Jeet Kune Do, bringing worldwide attention to his Wing Chun roots. Within another branch of Ip Man’s teaching tradition, Grandmaster Leung Ting developed and spread the Leung Ting WingTsun system internationally. His student Sifu Mike Adams began training with him in 1980 and went on to teach WingTsun in Illinois. That tradition continues through Sifu Darrell Taylor Sr., who began studying Wing Tsun under Sifu Mike Adams in 2011 and carries these teachings forward at Authentic Wing Tsun of Peoria.
